Alloway
By far and away the most famous resident of Alloway was Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns, who was born in a small crofters cottage which still stands today. Burn's Cottage is a national monument and has been recreated for visitors to experience the harsh existance of people in Burn's day.
Nearby is the Burns Heritage Park which houses a museum dedicated to the Great Man and his works and the famous Auld Brig o' Doon over the River Doon.
Today Alloway is a very affluant suburb of Ayr with lovely tree lined roads, parks and golf courses. There are also a number of high quality shops, hotels, restaurants and pubs.
