Clarence Cottage dates to at least 1799 and has connections with Rev Henry Duncan, the Craigs of Ruthwell, the Rev Robert M’Cheyne and Captain Burns, son of Robert Burns. The local pub, The Farmers’ Inn which serves enjoyable lunches and bar suppers, was regularly frequented by the Bard. Other pubs and hotels close by are easily accessible by car. Brow Well and Ruthwell Cross are both within a short walking distance.
