You'll find southern Scotland is an easy drive from most cities in the north of England and central Scotland. And if you are coming from further afield the region is well placed within the motorway network. Both main arterial routes, the M74 and the A1 run right through the area and the main euro-route linking Ireland to the rest of Europe, the A75 runs accross the region linking with the M74 near Carlisle.

By Ferry

If you are coming from Ireland, the best thing to do is to head for Larne or Belfast. Then take the ferry to either Stranraer, Cairnryan or Troon and you'll step or drive ashore in either Dumfries & Galloway or Ayrshire. Stena Line operates between Belfast and Stranraer. P&O Irish Sea Ferries run between Larne and Cairnryan and Larne to Troon. In all, there are twenty crossings from Northern Ireland to Dumfries & Galloway every day and 4 sailings between Larne and Troon between March and October.
