Melrose is one of the most attractive town in the borders, famous for its annual Rugby Sevens tournament which first kicked-off in 1883. Melrose is also the site of psychiatric hospital, famous for its progressive approach to mental health care and among the first hospitals to dispose of padded cells and straight jackets.
The Southern Upland Way runs through Melrose which is an accommodation location for the route.
