Newcastleton
Newcastleton is based in historic Border Reiver country, known as "The debatable Land", home of the Armstrongs and Elliots.
The picturesque village of Newcastleton was founded in 1793 by the Duke of Buccleuch around the handloom weaving community, situated a few miles away from Old Castleton located further up the Liddel Water.
Newcastleton is a forest full of wildlife and views. Seemingly an odd choice for one of the world famous 7 Stanes mountain biking venues, it is a venue ideal for your first waymarked trail experience. If you want to get away from the crowds and experience tranquility whilst riding technical mountain biking trails, Newcastleton is only 30 minutes drive from the English border. The drive to Newcastleton, especially from the north, sets you up for your experience - it is quiet, twisting and scenic.
