This cosy detached dormer cottage sits quietly in the peaceful hamlet of Hardgate.

It was fully refurbished in 2001, and is surrounded by lovely views across open farm land. There is a secluded good sized, mature garden, full of flowers and unusual trees and shrubs - including a paper bark maple and a eucalyptus. For guests who are there at the right time there is even an abundant supply of rhubarb! An area of the garden has also been refurbished, and planted with new trees, rhododendrons, and other shrubs. The cottage is surprisingly spacious and beautifully light and airy. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 shower rooms and 1 bathroom, making it ideal for use by families or groups of friends alike. The dining room has a picture window overlooking the garden. The large sitting room has a garden door leading down steps to a patio and the garden. There are 2 other paved patio areas, for relaxing and enjoying the views, whilst listening to the melodic sound of the many birds that visit the garden.

It is only a 10 minute walk to the Haugh of Urr, where there is the Laurie Arms - a pub serving real ale and good bar meals. Hardgate lies about fourteen miles from Dumfries, and about 4 miles from Castle Douglas, a small market town with a good range of shops. The National Trust for Scotland's Threave Gardens are on the outskirts of Castle Douglas, with something of interest all the year round. Sandy beaches and facilities for sailing, fishing and golf are all available within a short distance. The surrounding countryside is ideal for cyclists and walkers of all abilities, and in the cottage you will find maps and books of local walks.

Ground floor: spacious hall; large sitting room with patio door leading down steps to patio and rear garden; kitchen; dining room with picture window overlooking rear garden; double bedroom (king size bed) with en suite shower room; bathroom. Upper floor: spacious landing; 2 bedrooms (1 king size double, 1 twin) shower room with w.c. and wash hand basin.
