The village has a popular pub serving food and real ales and is only about 4 miles from the Food Town of Castle Douglas which has an excellent range of shops and a variety of pubs, hotels and restaurants.
The Solway coast, with sandy beaches at Rockcliffe and Sandyhills and Kippford with its sailing club are within a short drive. There are several golf courses nearby and all types of fishing are available wiothin easy reach. Nearby Loch Ken has a water ski school and marina plus a watersports centre with instruction and boat/canoe hire. One of the main stages on the 7Stanes mountain bike network is within a 15min drive of the cottage.
