The Museum
Description
The Museum contains a wealth of historical treasures, some pre-Victorian, and has exciting and interesting displays of the natural and social history of Galloway. The idea of a Museum arose from the fact that so much of the heritage of the area was disappearing fast, hastened by taxation, the 1939/45 war and the difficulty of staffing large country houses. 98% of the exhibits in the museum have been gifted or lent by local people and, with the exception of a very few articles, all are of Scottish origin.
