Traquair

Traquair Accommodation inc hotels, self catering holiday cottages and bed and breakfastsTraquair means 'Homestead on the River Quair'. ; the river name has been derived from vedra (Brythonic) 'clear one' and its cognate with Weir. Older forms of Traquair include Treverquyrd in 1124.

Traquair is the home of the oldest inhabited house in Scotland. Traquair House makes a hauntingly beautiful picture, buried deep in a thickly wooded valley beside the River Tweed. Romantic, evocative, and tranquil are all adjectives that perfectly describe Traquair as seen today, but its history of traumas, tragedy, poverty and eccentricities are so vividly brought to life in this ancient residence.

The Southern Upland Way runs through Traquair which is an accommodation location for the route.
